Also, since the van will be for business purposes, there is no s75 protection unless you can successfully argue it was a consumer purchase only.

I disagree - do you have any authority for this? As far as I know, S75 doesn't have any such restriction - it is whether the credit agreement is regulated under the act rather than the purpose of a particular transaction that is relevant. So if you use a private credit card to make a purchase for yourself then you're covered (subject to £100 to £30K rule) regardless of how you intend to use the purchased goods. If, however, a Ltd company made the purchase but you used your personal card then it wouldn't be. (Separate legal persons.)

The 2.5% will just be to cover merchant fees and cost of the card equipment OP - it's standard for some companies to charge this, like you said it's as if they don't us to use credit cards. That's exactly right ;)

I wish my parents had bought me a £37,000 van when I was younger, I had to make do with an old scrapper until I had the money to buy a better one.

OP: It's typical and reasonable, and you are correct: they don't want you buying a van on a credit card. They want you to use a debit card, and lastly, that's a mighty high limit you have there!
