Dell Laptop keeps switching off?

I have had my Dell laptop now for about 5.5 years. I paid about £1200.00  for it as I upgraded everything on it so it is still really quick compared to some people's new laptops that I have seen.

It keeps turning itself off, it happens if you move it in anyway shape or form - possibly like it is shorting out? My worry is that all my stuff is still on there - photos of my little girl as a baby - if my laptop is !!!!!!ed, will I lose all of this stuff? Because it was so expensive and had all the extra memory, ram etc, I think it might be worth my while trying to get it fixed but I haven't the first clue of where to take it.

First things first back up any important photos, documents etc. onto CD, DVD or USB stick.

If you do take it somewhere to get fixed, be aware that they will probably ask you if you have backed up stuff first, just in case they lose it all.

Bear in mind they will have access to your computer so you might want to delete anything you don't want them to see, such as passwords, cookies, bank details, internet browsing history, caches, instant messaging history, emails and well any other stuff.

Have you tried anything yourself? New battery perhaps. Try contacting Dell to see if they can offer any assistance.

Thanks for getting back to me so swiftly. The battery is relatively new and is about 95% full so I know that it is not that. I am struggling to try and get it to stay on long enough to back it up onto disc. Can they take your hard drive and back it up for you if the computer is !!!!!!ed?

They should be able to, if they can't you probably should go somewhere else.

If you have another pc it's quite easy to get a caddy that allows you connect your laptop drive to it via usb.
