Hi, I was wondering if anybody had any experience with a cheaper alternative to Flora margarine - perferably from Mr T's or Al£i. I have dropped brands on most other products but DH is very particular about his marg! Many thanks.

Tbh, if I'm going to eat spread instead of butter then it can only be flora. It is quite often on offer at the different supermarkets. I have chess to a few so try & get it when on offer as it's what my husband likes.
I've tried the Aldi one. I didn't like it much.0 -
I buy the Aldi spread as well. I personally think its okay. But if it has to be flora then I would stick with the branded ones and buy whatever is on offer.0

I would sincerely ditch the margarine and get back to real butter. Margarine is so, so bad for your health
Fortunately, it has now been proven that butter is better, healthwise, but that information is taking a bit of time to spread! ()
Butter is much tastier too!0 -
I only buy flora buttery. Always stock up when its on offer.0

I buy which ever spread is on offer at Tesco. Often I can't believe its not butter. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0

I use the "Olive" spread from ald* , nice taste, 95p IIRC for 500g.
but......is butter really healthier?? Love butter!LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
Real butter. Yum. Just spread it thinner. The taste will make up for that.
And I buy Kerrygold Butter always. The cost is worth it. I cut it into half inch slices and freeze. Take out a slab the night before. Brilliant.
I hate marge of any sort.
But each to their own I suppose.0 -

So do I!
And yes, it is better than the trans fats in many margarines.

Another thing I love, is fresh ciabatta or baguette dipped in olive oil. Yum.0 -
I always buy Flora original.Haven't tried any other brand. Like Flora for when I make pastry as well.0

agree with fruball - those 'synthetic spreads' are not as healthy as real butter. I have been saying it for years............you cannot convince me that something produced in a 'factory' is healthier than something as 'natural' as butter.
oh and the taste of 'good' olive oil on a crusty slice of bakers bread.........nearly as good as butter!0
