Excellent Credit Score but missed payment

Options
Wondering if anyone can offer some advice?

My husband and I have applied for an addition to our mortgage - we heard back from Santander yesterday and they say that whilst our affordability is ok, we have been refused as we have a problem on our credit score!

I checked Experian and my credit score is 985= Excellent. However there are 2 missed payments from Opus. This is because I had seen a couple of transactions back in March that I did not recognise and disputed it. I had asked them to put the account on hold but they clearly didn't! My card has a zero balance and I haven't paid anything with it for the past four months so I cancelled it.

I have spoken to opus who are going to check the call and take it from there - they say that this could take ages.

On my husbands file with equifax, his rating is good. He has a strange account with next - but he doesnt have a next account? This has a zero balance.

Given the above, and the fact that our scores are excellent and Good - would the lenders look at any additional evidence and consider giving us the mortgage increase?

We complete on the 31st July.

You don't have a credit score. They don't exist. The figures you quote are irrelevant made up numbers, as are words such as "Excellent".

Santander would have scored your application and probably determined that the increase was unaffordable for you (and the missed payments would also have had an impact on how they scored your application).

In relation to Next has your OH purchased at next.co.uk? I only ask because I did last year... and despite declining the option of a credit account they went ahead and opened one away!

It was posted here on MSE; I used Noddle to raise a dispute and they removed it from my reports.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

How did they manage that without your DoB?

Walking away from accounts in dispute isn't advisable. As you've found to your cost.
