Anyone going to Cornwall - A30 improvements?

I see the new road at Indian Queens has been opened, would be interested to hear from anyone travelling to/from Cornwall especially on a Saturday how this affects journey times. Im hoping not to sit in stationary traffic for 45 mins again this year!

Just bumping this to ask for any updates on the A30 traffic situation, we are heading to St Austell on Saturday from Herts.

Make sure you get off the A30 at the correct junction - there aren't so many access points to join and leave!

Depending on what time of day you're leaving, I'd be inclined to get off the A30 at Sourton (just west of Okehampton) and come down the A386/A390 to St Austell. It takes you via a bit of Dartmoor through Tavistock, Callington, Liskeard and Lostwithiel and is slower going than the A30 (normally) would be, but it's much more picturesque, and according to the AA's routeplanner it's actually a shorter journey (49.8 miles as opposed to 51.6 by the A30). Obviously it will take slightly longer, but as you'd probably still spend quite a lot of time sitting on the A30 going nowhere (despite the improvement), I doubt you'll find it quite as frustrating!

I haven't been down that way for a while (we live in Launceston on the Devon/Cornwall border, only 200 yards from the A30) because we know what the traffic's like and tend to save any trips west for the quieter seasons, but a work colleague went down to St A to see her daughter last Saturday and it took her two hours (should take about 40 minutes). The turn-off for St A is well before Indian Queens but the traffic was as bad as ever.

Bring the sun with you, pleeeease?

thanks for the tip soggymoggy, I will check it out. Sounds like the "improvements" will make no difference to us then if the Launceston-A30 St Austell turnoff stretch is still as bad as ever.

cant make any promise about the sun but it is supposed to be better on Sunday fingers crossed!
