This look potentially interesting for us parents:
http://www.protectingeachother.com/index.htm
It looks like its in trial mode at the moment but is interesting nevertheless. And the company is based in the UK (Leeds).
Having read the FAQ it looks like its a learning engine that runs on bayesian inference.
I still wouldn't let my child online alone though.

Waste of time. Any PC savvy kid can get around these. Also only supports limited IM clients so it's of absolutely no use on forums, IRC, Java chat on websites.
Can be as clever as it wants but if it only works with Messenger type IM clients, it's pointless.0 -
LOL!
Conor, if you care to do your own research instead of blasting something without looking into it
Dear god
Most grooming (and I say most as its a researched statistic but i have no figure to hand) is done through MSN. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY of getting round it. Thast the point!
You may think how?
For the simple reason.. there is nothing visible on the pc that's doing anything! This isn't for Tech wizard kids as they know what they're doing most of the time, but for younger people who don't, they are more likely to be seduced into grooming!
First of all, this is beta! So instead of being an idiot and saying its pointless cos it only works on MSN, why dont you read the website! (sorry, people like you annoy me though...)
For the full version it will support ALL major IM Clients including Myspace Private Chat! The child has no idea what's goin on (if the parent wants it that way).
Its been made using immense research and rather than detecting certain words like "sex" "asl" etc etc, it analyses the conversation in phrases.. It scores the conversation and if certain critera are met it will alert the parent through an email that the conversation is suspect....
It knows the differnece between child to child, and adult to child as well as there is a MASSIVE difference between child to child, and adult pretending to be child to child. You may not think so, but the simple fact is, there is!
So instead of blasting it, saying its a waste of time and easy to get round, why dont you do research?[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Oh my poor misguided fool. You've been online like what, a few years? I've been online since 1991 and have been using, building and repairing PCs for 20 years.MercilessKiller wrote: »

So there's nothing that'll show up if Taskman is run, services.msc is run, procexp is run or msconfig is run? And it's not possible to close it down by running taskman, selecting the process and selecting "End Process Tree"? And it's the kid who is the geek who is more at risk as they tend to be less "streetwise" due to lack of social integration.MercilessKiller wrote: »

So it monitors embedded Java chat clients? IRC?
And if you don't think kids can work out it's running, you're a deluded fool. The kids know more than the parents.MercilessKiller wrote: »So instead of blasting it, saying its a waste of time and easy to get round, why dont you do research?
Just pointing out the gaping holes in this and others.
HAve a read of this. Shows how easily bypassed the market leaders are.

*sigh*
These forums used to be full of sensible people. Now they're full of idiots.
I dont give 2 damns if youve been repairing pc's for 20 years. What difference does that make? And what difference does it make how long i've been online for ROFL! I DIDNT WRITE THE SOFTWARE!
It does embedded java chat clients yes, and when was the last time you saw 12 year olds using IRC? (except CSS players)
Also... this targets a different market than the one you're thinking of! Stop thinking everyone knows how to do these things! Its not true! the AVERAGE 14 year old has NO IDEA about the processes in task manager! And this is aimed at AVERAGE children and girls.. who have no idea!
You're not just pointing out gaping holes, you're being ridiculous!!!![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
