Rented flat contents insurance

Options
Hi, I was hoping somebody could help me with a query regarding contents insurance please.

My son moved into a rented flat and had paid for a full years contents insurance. Ten months into the new policy, so only two months remaining, he moved out of this property and into a larger house.

In this property his girlfriend took out 12 months contents insurance with a different provider. All was fine he thought.

Today he has had a call from Regal Consultants stating that he owes his first insurer (for the flat) £76 as he didnt tell them he had vacated the property.

Can they do this, is this correct

Any help appreciated.

Need to ask what that fee is for and also what happened to the insurance. If they found out he left the property without informing them they may have voided the policy for non-disclosure which he will have to inform all of his insurers for for life - including those home policies he is covered by but not named on.

Did he pay the remaining 2 months premium or did he cancel the DD but not the policy?

He had paid for the whole year in advance. so nothing owing there.

The policy was £46.00 for the 12 month period. Which he paid in full. He just let the policy run its remainder period although he wasnt there.

I am asking the question as they just say he owes the money and are not being very helpful.

    Thanks for the reply

They need to provide a breakdown of the cost.

As he paid in full I would guess there is a cancellation fee for early termination and a small rebate for the last 2 months. The debt collectors may be adding on additional fees too

You're probably best going back to the broker/ insurer to ask as they are the ones that will be able to tell him if the policy was cancelled by them or not
