Returning items without original packaging (Matalan)

I ordered several items by mail-order from Matalan, most of which are fine, but unfortunately I bought several pairs of trousers which are too small. I've been the same size for ages so I stupidly didn't bother to measure myself first. I also threw the packaging away. Do you think they will be still willing to exchange them for a larger size given that? They do still have their tags and the receipt though.

Most products wont sell for full price without the packaging so I dont think they will return it. but you would probably be better asking Matalan as its their stock.0

Assuming you are cancelling within 14 days of receipt they need to accept the cancellation, in the case of trousers opening the packaging is completely irrelevant, throwing away the packaging may allow them to make a deduction for diminished value but does not take away your right to cancel the contract. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

Just to add, what was the packaging? In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

I have used Matalan online before and have had no problem returning or exchanging in the store. Once you have managed to open some of the packaging it is impossible to get the items back in the bag!! As long as tags are on and receipt in hand I think you will be ok0

If the packaging was just what they use to send out mail order goods then you may be fine as it isn't part of the actual item really. You would have to make sure that you packaged them equally well to send them back and I would check first if they would accept that. Otherwise I wonder if you could do an instore return where they would care even less so long as all the tags were there and you had your receipt."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Thanks all. I don't want my money back just a bigger size. I'm taking them back to the store myself, it's the flimsy plastic they were wrapped in I threw away. Hopefully I'll have the same experience as wantnomoneyworries. That or go on a diet!0

I've rarely shopped at Matalan so I'm not sure whether in store they would just put mail order returns out to sell, but if they do I would expect them not to use the plastic wrapping anyway.0

Why not buy the bigger size as a new purchase (either from the store or online) and be careful when taking the trousers out of the packaging.
Provided that the sizing or barcode details are not printed directly onto the packing, there is no reason why you can't use the new packing for the unwanted trousers.0
