Suppliers' projections for future usage

Suppliers use centralised weather data for distributing estimates across price changes for old bills.

What about future annual projections? Say over the past twelve months temperature data suggests that 20% less energy should have been used. Do suppliers get to assume we will revert to average next year and add that on to whatever the household used? Or are they expected to only apply the seasonal adjustment to the actual consumption?

Am fairly sure that EDF last simply said they think I will use the exact same amount of gas and electricity over the year when they last 'predicted' mine.

The OFGEM RMR guidelines for personal projections (the things you now see on bills, annual statements etc.) only account for seasonality and not weather correction. This was brought in March 2104, but only deals with predicting future costs.

The OP is however talking about estimated reads shown on bills in the past. EDF definitely use weather correction for estimating reads for billing purposes. BG used to, but I've not been a BG customer for a few years so don't know if they currently do (but would imagine they do). If you want accurate billing submit monthly reads, or at least submit a read when a price change or product closure letter is received.

Just ask your supplier if they do or do not use weather correction.
