Thought I'd throw my hat into the ring as well. I signed up with Take Note in June of last year and I can honestly say I've not had a single problem with them. They are such a bunch of friendly people even if you only contact them via email. They give you loads of feedback and all the tools to do the job. Yes it is hard work but it it is well worth it. I only do it part time - 2 shifts a week around another job and it is financially worth my while.
Typically I do the 6pm-6am shift on a Tuesday and I'm done my bedtime - once or twice I've had a late one and was up until midnight, 1 am but I don't work Wednesdays, and now that I've moved jobs and have weekends off I do the long weekend shift (6pm Friday to midday Sunday). I absolutely love this shift because you can do the file around the weekend. So, I can still go out shopping or watch the football in the afternoon, or watch Strictly when it's on.
I'd totally recommend giving them a shot if this is something you're interested in.

I registered fairly recently, did the training tests, and received my freelance contract the next morning. I'm really enjoying it so far.
It's definitely not a "get rick quick" scheme, but as mentioned, if you're a fast and accurate typist with a good grasp of spelling and grammar, they're a lovely company to deal with. The flexibility is fab! :)

These threads are really useful as I'm looking into ways to earn more money on top of my full time job.

I've never had an additional 'ad hoc' job before and wondered how the self-employed aspect works? Does anyone know how this affects the TAX rate you pay with your main job? Also do you know if they contact your reference as I'm not sure if I'd want my current employer to know I was doing extra work!

You get a tax allowance, regardless of how many jobs you have (employed and/or self employed). If you go over that, you pay tax.

Maybe have a look on the HMRC or gov.uk website if you don't understand tax. There are some great pages to explain it for you.

I don't believe they contacted mine. However, unless you signed a contract with your employer stating that you will work exclusively for them, what does it have to do with them what you do in your free time? :)

    I think 98% is a tad extreme.

I'm around 80 wpm would that be quick enough to make it worthwhile do you think?

I suppose you get quicker with practise?

Speed is far less important than accuracy for most companies.

Good point since the author of the post you quoted misspelt "practice".
