I happen to be a fan with 2 tickets for the Monday night show. I have been to a garth concert before and it takes the lights, the crac and maybe a drink to make most concerts and you can,t get that from an afternoon show. I bought tickets for a Monday NIGHT concert not a Monday afternoon show. if Dublin is off I will go to the uk to see him. 5 or nothing. well done garth.

Been to many all day events and seen bigger and better and more current acts that Garth Brooks without needing it to be either dark or to be drunk.

Not that i went, but my son and his G/F had tickets for One Direction in Croke Park there a couple of months ago. One Direction played Radio 1's big weekend in the afternoon in Glasgow then flew in to Dublin for the evening show. I dont recall hearing about too many fans in Glasgow complaining having to watch them during the day.

The man is having a laugh - fortunately most people see through his "its all about the fans" charade and realise hes taking the pee.

For someone whos on a "comeback tour" he really should be bending over backwards to accommodate his fans, and be greatful they see fit to support him, not !!!!ing them off.

one direction is a kids concert, most of the adults there were with their kids that's told to me by my sister who took a minibus with 12 kids all 10 years old. these 5 garth concerts were sold out at the beginning of the year. could you please explain to me why they were only cancelled 10 days ago when Dublin council knew about the 5 shows plus the 3 one direction ones 6 months ago and did nothing. you can,t blame the artist when he comes to Dublin to promote the show 6 months ago and Dublin did,nt mention a problem then, in the press release in Dublin 6 months ago it clearly says at least 3 shows.

I wasn't aware that he was doing any shows in the UK. Is he?

    No. He's not.

If I had five nights of concerts next to my house, I'd rent out a couple of parking spaces, maybe a bedroom and sell crisps and fizzy drinks from my garden. What an opportunity.

Garth Brooks has just told Ticketmaster to go ahead with refunds as concerts are definitely not happening.

I heard a woman on the Radio a week back when the concerts were first cancelled. She had booked 3 rooms in a Dublin Hotel for the night of one off the concerts for herself and her family/friends. 3 Rooms, (Bed Only) was about €198/room. (if I remember rightly) When the first “cancellation”was muted, she phoned to cancel. All OK,they even offered her the rooms for €149/night Inc. Breakfast if she was willing to keep the booking….. A bit put out, she thought, funny how they’re now so much cheaper!!, but cancelled anyway. Next day when it was muted they may go ahead after all, she called back to same hotel to see if she could re-book rooms. Yes of course she was told, that’ll be €243/room, (Bed Only).

I’m sorry, but if this is how the hotel industry operate, I have NO sympathy for their “Losses” over this cancellation…..

Also...... I know they where not directly involved with the concert as such but being the host venue, the GAA top brass knew fine well they were not allowed to have this many concerts but still let the whole publicity, ticket sales etc, etc, etc, go ahead..... Why??? Brooks, Promoter & the City Council seem to be getting all the flack..... The GAA can't walk away with slopey shoulders and not accept some of the blame for this fiasco !!

I actually posted the same last week - I thought the GAA were out of order. Their agreement was 3 concerts per year and they used up their quota on One Direction. I added the 5 Garth Brooks concerts and the American Football match being played there later in the year to criticise them for organising 9 non-GAA events when their agreement with the residents was 3.

However, I've read since (I'll try and dig out the link) that I was wrong. The agreement for a start was 3 non-sporting events - therefore the American Football match is fair enough. The wording of the agreement is that they can have 3 non-sporting events without obtaining agreement from planning - subsequent events must go through the full planning process. So it seems the GAA scheduled the three One Direction concerts without going through the planning process, and then went to planning with the Garth Brooks concerts. Whilst what they were doing was probably a bit unfair on the residents, they did follow the agreement they had.
