O/S Daily Thread Friday 11th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Good morning everyone :)

DH has broken up for the holidays but they had to make it horrible until the last possible minute - last day of term has always finished just after lunch, yesterday was a full day and there are still no timetables for next year and no-one has the slightest idea what they are teaching

On a more positive note, car insurance came through and managed to save £120 using MSE recommended comparison site. Like house insurance, the insurance company said they can't possibly match the quotes. Anyway that is paid for another year so no monthly amounts .... and added interest for insurance for 12 months.

Time to dash, TGIF and the first long weekend of the summer hols for me so work will seem like a doddle today :j

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Good morning chums , and a dark and drizzly morning it is too in the Garden of England. Still save money on watering the flowers I guess.

I shall be baking some cakes and biscuits after the school run this morning as the weather is a bit bleugh. then this afternoon after lunch I'm off to my History Club where we are going to learn about Lutyens, the chap who designed the Cenotaph amonst other things.

Apart from that its going to be a pottering about day I think.Hope you all are having better weather where ever you are and <<hugs>> for those feeling down or poorly
Take care all

Morning all
TFI Friday, I'm so looking forward to the weekend, mind you poor hubby is working Saturday even though it's not his turn, there is so much to do both of them are working.
I had my hearing aids fitted y'day & got on fine with them, wore them to work & managed all day until bedtime.
I love my new car, it has lots of bells & whistles but I'm just happy that all the windows & the radio work. My DD loves my old car, it saves her 6 miles of walking everyday & with SPD, that's good.
Hubby is still getting calls from his brothers about his Mum's will, I intercepted one & told the brother to stop being a prize A'hole.
The twins are now 9 weeks old so we showed them my fish tank, little Ted was moving his head, watching the fish, Marla just fell asleep!
We also introduced them to DD2's dog as she was worried about her reactions to tiny babies, she was interested, but showed no 'hunt' indications. She did get on my knee along with Marla, just to ensure she got her share of cuddles.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning :hello:

Miss tru is a star, she came home from work yesterday with chocolate, that always cheers me up :D

Such an exciting day yesterday – I cleaned out the fridge, grated loads of cheese and picked and froze some basil :D

I went through all paperwork and binned some old stuff. Also checked all wage slips against the P60s to check sure they matched (don't know why, I always check as soon as they come in so I already knew they were OK) and binned them, just kept the P60s. My file is much lighter :D

It's mr tru's day off, he's still in bed at the moment. No idea what we're doing today apart from a bit of shopping. Might go over to Fairford to see the planes :D I don't think we'll see much, most have already flown in. Might get to see some practice displays, but I'm only interested in the fast loud ones, lol

Good morning everyone

It's a bit dull and grey here this morning but I think it's due to brighten up later on. I have the crisis team visiting me this morning but I'm hopeful of being discharged to the community mental health team as I'm not in 'crisis' anymore.

I'm still missing my lovely dog and have a little cry when I come home from anywhere as he's not there to greet me but me and hubby were talking last night and we think in a couple of months we will start looking for a rescue dog as it's just not a home for us without a furry friend. I am home all day and our girls are older now so can help with walking etc.

I am going to my friends for a coffee this afternoon and tesco are delivering shopping this morning. I also have some washing to do but I'm not going to push myself too much. Sweet and sour chicken for tea tonight from the Hairy Dieters book and some nice watermelon for pudding.

Hope everyone manages to have a great day, take care xx

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH has a day off because we’re going away. So he’s awake enjoying the first cuppa of the day whilst I’m on here, having had my first cuppa and brekkie. DS2 up, had brekkie, now getting ready for school. DS1 still in his pit.

Cloudy and overcast here, very wet underfoot and is spitting with rain at the moment. Awful day yesterday, rained almost continuously from 8.30am ish – didn’t stop properly until late afternoon.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, onion sauce, potatoes (new/LO mash), HG green beans, and peas. Ice cream for dessert for those that wanted some. Not sure what we will be eating tonight as we’re away – there’s going to be food available, I have food to take with us – so we won’t starve. I’ve organised food in the fridge and freezer for the boys – they know what to do with it.

I was reasonably productive yesterday – got the food shopping done reasonably early as I didn’t have to go to the bank first – I’ll be going there shortly, then when I get back we’ll be packing the car and heading off. The SM was absolutely heaving at that time – I’d always thought Fridays’ were bad enough! I tackled the ironing mountain and got our bag packed.

We just need to pack the car when I return from the bank and head off. Would just like some sunshine too!

Have a great Friday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

• Good morning all,

Overcast at the moment, but weather man promises it will improve.

Washing machine on with a coloured wash, so shouldn't take long.

We are off to the Farm Shop this morning to stock up. They do have some lovely meat, not cheap but good so we just don't eat quite so much. They also have what I call "proper" sausages, so I buy a few and then split them up and freeze them. Taking DD1 with us, thought a change of scenery would do her good. I will be so relieved when the bone has completely healed and she can drive again. She never complains but I know she must feel frustration that it is taking so long.

We didn't have a bin collection yesterday and it should have been recycling as well, so that must wait 2 weeks before that will be collected now.

Hoovered right through yesterday, Himself did upstairs and I did downstairs so nice and tidy now.

I must try to do some baking at the weekend and stock the freezer again.

Have a good day.

Candlelightx
• Morning everyone, nice morning here not bright sun but sunshine and cloud and not too hot so it should be better conditions to work in outside, yesterday was just too hot and humid.

He Who Knows is off to DD1 today to take her cat to the kennels for 3 weeks as she leaves for the World Challenge trip to Zambia for 3 weeks tomorrow. It will be a wonderful experience for the 40 odd young people she's taking and if past experience is anything to go by, will change thier view of the world substantially. I'll be looking forward to her return and I'll be going up to stay with her for a week to make sure she actually takes a break this summer holiday. The criticism of teachers by the education department is so misplaced, my DD loves her job but usually leaves for the day at 7.15 in the morning and if she's back by 7.15 at night after meetings, paperwork, teaching, activities, risk assesments, duties etc it's a good day and then she does marking, planning, development, department paperwork etc. she has commitments in the evenings if there is a school performance/parents evening/or any event that needs 'front of house' management and quite a few weekends are taken up by D of E commitments, trips with the children, open mornings at the school so I think she earns her wage. What she doesn't get is any time to live her life!!! She's going to get 1 week this summer though, even if I have to tie her to the armchair and make her rest. Hats off to ALL those hardy and dedicated souls who teach and are involved in the running of the educational establishments that serve our youngsters so well under very difficult circumstances, You're GOOD FOLKS!!!

Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Hi everyone,

I didn't post yesterday because I was feeling a bit meh. I went to the dentist and had a filling replaced, according to the dentist there isn't a lot of that tooth left now. I have a terrible mouth full of fillings and crowns, I'm slowly trying to replace all my ugly black fillings with white ones.

I have to wait in today because someone is coming to collect the dining chairs DS and GF ordered (the seat pads don't match). Not a lot going on apart from that.

Have a good day.
