The credit note is an enhanced replacement - with this you can buy the same item again, or something else from the store. They have fully complied with their legal requirements.0

Having accepted the credit note your to late to do anything else now, it forms a new contract, regardless of the circumstances.
"Regardless of the circumstances"?
It sounds like OP was misled about their statutory rights by the retailer in store, an offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.
The circumstances are important, as the store have committed a criminal offence in getting to this point. No judge would insist the OP has to stick with a decision made on that basis.0 -

It is not an 'enhanced replacement'. There is no such legal term in the SoGA.
This also assumes the product is still available.0 -

As said above, this would only be true if the original product was still available. Time and time again there are people around these parts who have been offered credit notes for obsolete items. That is NOT a replacement, as you can't buy the same product with your credit note.
A credit note an only be a suitable remedy if it is agreed on by both parties, where there is no replacement available.0 -

OP didnt say the replacement wasnt available - just that she didnt want to take a replacement as she now felt the quality was poor.0 -

I know. I was generalising. If the replacement is available then the OP owes nothing more. They also didn't explicitly say that there was a replacement available;)
