Faulty car part after 2 months

Hi.
i purchased via eBay a coolant temperature sender for my car just over 2 months ago. After only 2 months the sender developed a fault in which the temperature outputted was about 20°C less than the actual coolant temperature.
A replacement part has now been fitted and all is now fine with the outputted temperature.
The seller is refusing to refund, saying their returns policy is 14 days only, despite me quoting the sales of goods act to him.
Am i right in thinking i am covered under the sale of goods act, as a coolant temp sender is NOT of satisfactory quality NOR fit for purpose if it only lasts 2 months.
Thanks in advance for any help received.

Did you give them a chance to rectify the problem before fitting the new sensor?
More to the point if that is 2 sensors you have went through in a couple of months are you sure there isn't another problem causing them to fail.0 -
The Sale of Goods Act states that if the fault is inherent, i.e. present at he time of sale but not necessarily apparent at that time, then the seller must provide a remedy.Hi.

That remedy could be either a repair or replacement or a refund, but the seller effectively chooses which.
It also says that if a fault appears within the first six months after sale, then the fault is deemed to be inherent unless the seller proves otherwise.
I fear the best you could hope for is a replacement for the faulty part and as you have already bought a replacement that may not be much use to you.
How much are we talking about?
It might be worth pursuing and selling any replacement you may get... you need to decide that.0 -
The part cost £13 and was new. The replacement was a used part and only cost £6. So we're not talking big money but a matter of principle.0

I had to fit the replacement part to ascertain whether it was this part that was faulty.Did you give them a chance to rectify the problem before fitting the new sensor?

Also the part that was replaced by this faulty part had worked properly for many years.0 -
That's ok... you're welcome.0

They're entitled to repair, replace or refund - so you're not automatically entitled to a refund.0
