CCj that wasnt mine - now bad credit?

Options
The last couple of years I have started a new carear and never thought about my credit history in the past.
I wanted a loan for a car, so applied for two and got declined, tried credit cards and got declined, never thought much of it, thought it was because i was young and had no credit history.

I then opened an account with noddle.co.uk and noted i had a CCJ in my name!! This was not mine and has now been taken off, but it has been on their since 2010, and was from some momey owed in 1999 - when i was eleven years old!

Im guessing that all my declined loans and cards were due to this CCJ. I believe that every time you get declined your credit history gets lower and lower?

Is their anything i can do to clear this up? Can i take action for the wrongful CCJ??

What would be the best way to build a bit of credit?

Much appriciated, Brian

No - the declines are not recorded, only the accesses to your file, so the fact the incorrect CCJ has been removed, you're good to go. Your searches disappear in a matter of months (to prevent multiple applications).

A SIM only mobile contract is a great way to keep your report active. If things get tight you can terminate more quickly.

Lenders can only see whether you've applied for credit elsewhere, not whether you've been accepted or declined. However, they may be able to guess by examining the credit accounts you have open.

No. Searches can temporarily count against you, but declines or accepts are not recorded.

Getting a credit card and using it regularly (paying off in full each time) is the best way to build a credit history easily.
  • Thats brilliant, thanks for the help!

When applying for a loan, it sometimes asks if i have had a CCJ in the past x years, do i have to click yes on this as it has been on my account?
If i tick no, and they see that i have, wether it was a mistake or not, would it count against me?

Probably worth checking statutory reports from Experian and Equifax as well. (£2 each). No need to sign up for the monthly paid version.

You have to tell the truth on applications. Start telling fibs and you'll find yourself on an anti fraud database or worse.

Can I ask how you got it taken off your file please? I have a similar problem just discovered on file, not my debt, all court papers sent to an address moved away from 3 years earlier.
Did you get the ccj set aside? I think I have a case but how long does it take?
Am in middle of buying a house.
    Thanks
