Just wondering, how much is it likely to cost to have pebble-dashing removed? I have a 3 bedroom semi detached house.

Well done on wanting to get rid of it pebble dashing is the most god awfull ugly thing you can put on a house. Id rather have pictures of Chris evans stuck all over my house than pebble dashing.
Ok rant over.
it can be a nightmare or it can come off easy you never know till you start. And some parts of the same wall can be easy and some hard.
You can actually render over it in some cases but you are relying on the bottom coat being well stuck.
You can get someone to give you a fixed price to do it but theyll probs price it on the high side I know i would, or you can offer some one a day rate till its done.0 -
Another question - it sounds as though it will be expensive to remove pebble dashing because, once it is off, the brickwork will probably need doing. So I was wondering, can you paint over pebbledashing?0

You will definately have to do something to the bricks like re render them, Ive never taken render off and it has looked ok underneath.
You can paint it and it will look miles better.0 -

For the short term at least, I think this is definitely what I'll do. Can you just use emulsion paint or does it have to be special paint?0 -
Go to B&Q and grab one of the pensioners hmm sorry employees and say you want paint specifically for exterior work on out side render, their actually quite helpfull in band q. Something to think about; it wont work with a roller as the pebble dashing is so coarse youll have to do by brush so get 52 of them as well cos it'll wear them down0

Its not often I agree with Nelly
... But I do here - pebble dashing is awful and should be banned!
The big question will be was the pebble dashing put there for a reason - i.e. to hide damaged or worn bricks and to stop water penetration.0 -

Im fairly certain it was a bit of a trend in the 60's and early 70's, and like most fashions from them days quite unforgiveable :rotfl:
The 80's introduced us to Tyrolean and stone cladding, which just goes to show tastes change but dont improve.
Its probably and normally, just an asthetic thing but as Doug quite rightly points out it may be a protective finish for a number of reasons (no cavity wall being the main one) I did say that it will certainly need to be re rendered.0
