'Must haves' for chicken pox

There has been an outbreak of chicken pox at DS1's nursery. Today he is hot, miserable and off his food - so my guess is that he has it, or if not, there is a good chance that at least one of my boys will get it.
I'm not looking for medical advice, but I want to be prepared. I have calamine lotion and Calpol, but can anyone recommend anything else - medical or otherwise, which they found invaluable when their little ones had chicken pox.
My biggest fear is that all three boys will come succumb together!

Oatmeal. Oatmeal baths can help with the itchiness.

Also things to distract them. They're going to want to scratch and will need to be distracted.

  • Poxclin mousse. My DD had it last month, the pharmacist wouldn't give piritin as she is under 6. The mousse is great as it covers all bases.

    Porridge oats bath aswell.

I swore by it when all four of mine had it, been a long time since then though, funny how pharmacist/doctor advice changes over the years.

It might be my twisted logic but in my eyes that might not be a bad thing, at least you get your pain over with at once.

Cotton wool pads to soak calamine in to put on sore spots. Ice packs, ice lollies for cooling down temperatues.

If you're not already I'd sign up for supermarket home delivery if you can't get out the house, at least they can bring you food ( and they do kids medicines) for the next day. I'd get some cheap second hand dvds from amazon and lots of books from the library.

You need to cut their nails if you haven't done so already.

We went to the pharmacist asking for it specifically as we had heard success stories.
He said the mousse worked just as well and she didn't need calomine lotion either, just the mousse.

It really was great, my DD only really suffered badly for one day and her spots crusted over within a few days.

Ice lollies to help with temperature too

When I, and the kids, were young, Calamine lotion was brilliant - not sure if you can still get it.

Second calamine lotion. When my DS had it I made up a "nest" in the sitting room so he could watch DVDs etc then when he felt like it could just fall asleep and be comfy. He wasn't really hungry but we kept him going with fresh fruit and cool drinks. Downside was that I got it shortly afterwards and that was a whole other story. Keep adults at bay as they can eithe get full blown chickenpox or shingles which is much worse so I believe.
