Avoiding Interest on Travel Credit Cards

Technically you aren't meant to put credit card into credit and larger amounts may trigger money laundering checks.
However anecdotally I can say that I've not had any issues with being a few £s in credit with Halifax as obviously you are guessing the amount without the exact exchange rate.
As an aside interest on Halifax is charged from the next banking day, so cash taken out on a Saturday would usually be dated on my account as Monday for interest purposes.
Note in some countries the bank owning the ATM May make a charge. This is nothing to do with your bank and is common in some countries. If it's a charge for using the ATM then there's not much you can do apart from minimise the number of transactions.

Excellent, thanks. Just one more question, if there are other non ATM transactions on the credit card bill, will the credit paid to the account automatically come off the interest or could it be used to pay the other charges which don't incur daily interest?

    I can't speak for Santander.
For Halifax I believe the order is statemented cash, statemented purchases, cash not yet on a statement, then purchases not yet on a statement.

If I'm withdrawing cash then I make sure I pay off the entire balance, then I know I'm ok.
  • Thanks for the advice, will check with Santander.
