Hi all :hello:
I've been a lurker on these boards for about 2 years and this is my first post!:j
Basically I wanted to thank you all here on this board for your postings because without them I would be £600 a month worse off!
My eldest son (5) has Aspergers Syndrome and never once thought about claiming DLA etc. for him, but thanks to other posters asking and the responses they recieved I decided to go for it!
We have been awarded middle rate care, low rate mobility, increase in tax credits and I will now get carers allowance. I can't believe it to be honest.
I just wanted my first post to be a positive one, and thank you all for your help, turning me from a lurker to a poster.
so......
Thank you! :T :T :T

Good news

I had no idea that children could get benefits and for ages no-one told us that our son might be eligible  Luckily my lovely GP (who isn't even my son's doctor) encouraged us to apply and we were helped in the claim by a great social worker. It frustrates me that help is available, but no-one tells you about it unless you ask!
DLA and carers enabled me to give up work and look after him full time. I don't know how we'd have coped without the extra income.0 -
Great news for both of you!
I agree the benefits board is terrific!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Good for you!!!:j
I would always advise someone to claim if they think they may be entitled - if you don't ask, you don't get.
The other thing I generally advise is that if you are inexperienced at filling out DWP forms, is to go (via the CAB) and get some "professional" help to do them.
It can make a big difference between success and failure.
Reading benefit forums, it can seem as though every claim goes wrong - but the fact is that most sail through, and the only ones you read about are those that have problems.
But, well done for getting the extra money a month - it all helps.:T
Abd, don't forget to advise Housing Benefit (if you get anything from them), as the fact that you get "premiums", may mean you pay less.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
