Don't like to sound negative BUT I'm sure there was a thread a few months ago where people bought re-conditioned desktop machines from PCWorld.
The spec seemed a bargain for the price but (some?) people had loads of problems. PC not working on delivery etc..
Of course, since this is a laptop, these may be better.
However, if it was my money I'd go for the Dell (and then install XP on it!)
WHERE IS THE THREAD i READ IT TODAY BUT CAN NOT FIND IT NOW PLEASE HELP0 -
Iwas looking today for the Dell laptop priced£292 but now i can not find lt can anybody help me
go to dell.co.uk
click on purchase help
shop by e value code then scroll to bottom
1st part of code is 305 2nd part is n071002
this will bring the dell vostro up
scroll down to enhanceed service packs and select base warranty. The price should now show 292.57
Good luck0 -
This seems a very good offer. It seems to beat the Dell that was posted yesterday. Added bonus is that it comes with Vista Premium as well, instead of basic.
Only thing is it being a refurb, how does Compaq/PC World warranty match Dells?
Sold out now but your right , this was way better value than the dell, the same spec as this at dell was 400£. Dells brand name and reputation as reliable is what sells them(although i don't rate them way above other certain brands like the majority, but hey , who am i to judge lol) . Everyone either has a dell or knows someone that does.0 -

That is one of my main concerns with ordering this offer. However did a Google search and there is a huge thread on HotUKdeals from June when this offer first appeared. Plenty of people there ordered and seemed really happy, so I thought I'd chance it.
Not too worried about Vista, we all moved over to XP at some point, so Vista isn't bothering me. Wouldnt have taken Basic but Premium should be ok. Might be a little buggy until a service pack comes out though. Good thing is with it being a laptop built for Vista should be less problematic in terms of compatability then say a desktop which has a host of peripherals to be plugged in.0 -

Well you can't ever say an individual experience will be universal, but I picked up a recon Philips X58 laptop (T5200 core2duo @1GHz, 2G memory, 120Gb drive, Vista Home Premium) for £400 from Currys last week, and it works just fine. Truth is, if it wasn't flagged as recon you'd never know. (I mention it because obviously Currys & PCWorld are the same group, indeed from a bit of research it seems this one originally sold exclusively in PC world at £649)
They don't have any of these any more, but Currys do have recon core2duo Acers with 1G memory and Vista Home Premium for £369. To me, that's a better bet than the new Dells...I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -

The x58 you got was a whopper of a bargain, 2 gig ram as you said, high performance intel core duo t5200, the screen is excellent quality and you have to upgrade dells screens at the checkout to get the same quality screen as the philips, You also have bluetooth, Memory card reader,PCI Express connection. I costed this on dells site today as 622£ and the dell didn't have bluetooth, Memory card reader, the processor was a slightly less spec on the dell to. I have a X57 and was going to buy a x58 for a family member but they had sold out. I have a acer5633wmli i bought for 429£ but i have to say on that particular model the screen quality wasn't that great(wished i had waited a few weeks and bought the x58), It's the sort difference you wouldn't notice unless you had a good quality screen(such as the one on the philips and and lesser quality screen side by side, But when there next to each other the difference is big, im guessing it's similair to the standard screen you get a dell(without dells upgrade).
And they have put the price UP on the x58 , gone from 399 recon to 409. So 399 was a amazing purchase for what is in all intense and purpose a High end Laptop with quality components.0
