Why didn't my transfer go through?!

Ok.. I am with Southern Electric for my gas supply currently. I only use about 300kWh of gas a year and it was fine until they introduced a standing charge, meaning my gas bill has shot up from about £25 a year to £100.
Back in January I applied to go with Ebico on their no standing charge gas tariff because, obviously, this was going to save me a fortune. I had a letter back stating that the whole transfer should take no more than 28 days. Since then I have heard nothing more.
Today, I noticed that my husband is still getting emails from SSE... they are still billing us complete with standing charge.
I phoned Ebico... they claim to have no idea what happened and suggested I phoned SSE. I called SSE who didn't really seem to know what had happened but suggested maybe it hadn't gone through because I requested a change of supplier and they run Ebico. They said I should phone Ebico and ask them just to change my tariff rather than supplier. I called Ebico who said they can't do that and I have to apply again, which I have just done through the website.
Two questions - does anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong?! I made sure I was paid up at the time of the transfer-that-never-was so it wasn't that.
Secondly, if it goes wrong again, is there ANYTHING I can do about it?? I have to admit I had no idea it had been so long (it's been a crazy year so far with a lot of family illness for me to deal with ) and I will be keeping a closer eye on things this time... I am a tad irked by the whole thing, it's just cost me £30.
TIA

Did you apply direct to Ebico or through a comparison site? Over the phone or on the internet? All these ways can have pitfalls and stuff can fall through the cracks but you should have been looking out for some sort of confirmation, either by e-mail or letter from Ebico that they had accepted your swap and wanted a meter reading from you.
Six months is a long time to realise that it hadn't gone through. Unfortunately if you take your eye off the ball and don't keep them honest then there's not much you can do about itNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Just give SSE a call and tell them you want to be on the Ebico tariff; SSE is Ebico's supply partner
How did you apply back in January? If direct to SSE or Ebico, then tell 'em to back date it to last January.
(Pretty sure you didn't apply through a comparison site as Ebico don't pay any of them - but do appear on them for information )
Are you sure you are not on the Ebico tariff as requested? The bill still comes from SSE and there will be a standing charge shown ... but it's £0.000 -
I applied through Ebico's website. I did phone SSE. They told me I had to go through Ebico.
I know six months is a long time but like I said... it's been crazy. I'm not expecting them to do anything about that now really, but I find it a bit odd that nobody seems to know what happened.
I am definitely still paying standing charges - that's the 30 quid it's just cost me.
Oh well, better luck next time, as they say! I won't be dropping the ball and wandering away this time.
Thanks for the responses!0 -

As Bubblebath explained, just give SSE a call. With the evidence you claim to have that shows you applied back in January, I'm sure they will be-bill you back to when you applied for the Ebico tariffs.
If you had called them at the time, they should have transferred your tariff there and then. As it says on the ebico website when applying:EquiPower and EquiGas tariffs are supplied under Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro, SWALEC and SSE which are all trading names of SSE Energy Supply Limited0
