Getting info on my CCJ

Good evening everyone,

A few years back (2010) i had a dispute with a company that resulted in me being given a CCJ.

In short here is what happened. My girlfriend decided to become an Avon rep, when she was signing up the person representing Avon convinced us to open an account in my name too, as this would allow her to sell products to an area twice the size available to one person. I know it sounds daft but at the time neither of us realised we were signing up to a credit agreement. The problems started when my partner had to return some items that customers hadn't paid for, so she sent them all back (from both hers and my account) in one big box. Avon claimed they had recieved the stuff for her account but not from mine .

So next they took me to court and rather foolishly i didn't contest it as i had no proof of any of this.

My question to you guys is this, my CCJ is still showing on my credit file, and i think i would have paid it off after the judgement but i can't be sure. Can i find out if I have settled this debt and if so who do I need to ask?

Is it possible that I didn't pay it and the creditor simply hasn't chased me up? Is this why it isn't showing as settled?

I'm really worried about this now, and I know it's my own stupid fault, but I would like to do the right thing and get this sorted.

just ignore it, these things tend to go away in my experience
  • Thank you but I really can't just ignore this, I can't believe i would have ignored a court order (it's really not in my nature) but neither can i remember settling it.

    I'll never sleep again :(

It is not unusual for a CCJ not to be showed as settled, even if it has been paid off.

Often you need to obtain a certificate of satisfaction to prove to the court you paid it and they then send the information to the registry trust (who in turn update your credit files).

If you paid within a month of the judgement date then by proving you had settled it the CCJ would not appear at all. If paid off after a month then it would show but show as settled.

The only way to know if you paid is from your own records or to ask the creditor and trust that they will provide you with accurate/truthful information.

What you could try is simply contacting them and stating you have noticed that it is not showing as settled on your credit file so ask them to send proof you settled it which you can send to the court.

If their records show you settled it they should send this to you, if they don't then they will certainly tell you and request that you now pay.

  • Thank you Tixy.

I will contact Avon tomorrow to see what records they have on this.

    Thanks again.
