I always try to campaign to get REPAIR added into that mantra (I suppose as an alternative to reuse).
I have been having a fight with our IT department recently: they have a 'policy' that they will not perform any uneconomic repairs, which they actually define as 'if the cost of replacement is less than 150% of the cost of repair'. (Their argument being that replacement means you get newer equipment e.g. a new laptop instead of a three-year old one).

Rather than the opposite. My local 'out of town' supermarket has free parking. My in-town supermarket charges 30p for the first hour.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Car parking should be FREE.
I'd happily pay a surcharge on carriers in exchange for free parking. I then have a choice between paying or providing. If parking were free, local grocers etc would be more frequented, with the knock on effect of highly packaged supermarket produce being sold less, thereby reducing more waste.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

I think we were talking about supermarket car-parks (at least, I was). I can't see how free supermarket parking helps local small grocers?
I assumed GT was talking about town centre car parking.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Hard to say, as it's always been free. We do have about 9 bakers, three butcher's shops and two fishmongers in the town centre so maybe that's a positive sign? We've lost the two greengrocers though. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

I would object to paying for supermarket parking. It's bad enough that many small towns and villages have lost their local shops and to get food and clothes they have to go out of town, but to make people who are fortunate enough to actually be able to get there pay for the priviledge? No, I don't like that idea.
There are people in my home town struggling because there is nowhere locally to get the things they need any more. They have to go to neighbouring towns or further afield (to Ayr.) A pain for those who drive, a major inconvenience for those who can use public transport, a nightmare for those who can't.
Making people spend more and more money, on carriers, on parking, on refuse collection, on road tax...if's just not the answer. It is continuing to make the poor struggle even more and doing little for the environment. (It's increasing profits for business and generating money for the government though.)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

It doesnt. It helps the supermarket. It is a business afterall, and isn't there to make it easier for other business's to do better than it.
Council charges for parking in towns round here can be anything from 10p for 30 mins in the 'towns' with nothing in, like the small one I live in. A town where people actually go to though to shop and your looking at £2 for half an hour to park.
Where I work is a tourist hotspot. Parking is £6 for 3 hours. £4.50 for 2 hours. £3.00 for one hour and £2 for half an hour.
You can't park longer than 3 hours and it's the only car park in the place.
I'd rather go a supermarket and park for free to use the shop, not pay to use the shop.0
