PPI claim

Hi All,
Tried to post earlier but not sure what happened to my post as it seems to have disappeared....
Anyway, I have been writing to a number of banks to find out if I had any possible claim to mis-sold PPI in the past as I have had a number of credit cards and there was a point in my life where I was almost completely overwhelmed by them - all in the past now thankfully, but what I am finding is that some of these banks are asking for a £10 up front charge to be paid before they will release any information to me. Can they do that and is it legal...? It's my understanding from reading about PPI claims on this website that I am entitled to this information, yet here are our good old friends the banks once again demanding cash from me with which to further line their pockets at my expense.
Where do I stand on this and is there anything I can do about it or do I have to shell out even more of my hard earned cash to make them rich for doing nothing.

You are indeed entitled to this information, but the Banks are entitled to charge you for the time it takes them to search old records and provide it.flyingveepixie wrote: »It's my understanding from reading about PPI claims on this website that I am entitled to this information,0 -
