Changing Key meter to traditional monthly DD

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows a company who will (for free) change the meter type I have, from pre-pay key to a normal meter which allows me the use of Direct Debits, etc. It's a new rented property (landlord is happy with the change), I did ask one company, but they asked for £100 to change the meter. I appreciate it's a lot of work I expect, but it would be nice for free :-)
Cheers!
Chris

It's typically £60 per meter, but some companies will do it FOC in return for your contract-just ring around and ask.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks Macman, I didn't know if anyone knew of a company they've already used for this, to see how little I can pay, so to speak!
Cheers,

Sadly they were the last of the big 6 to be fingered, and they were by far the least heavily punished

They're all as bad as each other really. You can try ringing a smaller company and see how you get on.0 -
Interesting info Bluebirdman, it's so disappointing that part of human nature is to be manipulated by money :-/If someone is worth thanking - click on the 'Thanks' button on their response. It's just a nice thing to do :-)

You're right Nada, I am as an individual penny pinching when it comes to £100 or less. You're superior wisdom could be correct in that the larger companies proportionately do it on a more grandiose scale, say a few billion pounds. :TIf someone is worth thanking - click on the 'Thanks' button on their response. bikerchris, the companies that charge do so because the other option is to spread the cost on to the customers that are not having any work done.
So it could be said that those that do charge are fairer than those that choose to pass the cost on.
Is it fair that part of my bill could be paying for your new meter install, even though it is only you who will see a benefit?0 -
If you switch energy suppliers they should do it free of charge. I did this in my current place. I had prepayment meters which were an right royal pain in the ar*e! The meter change will be subject to a credit check but that's just so the energy supplier can make sure you can afford the direct debit. Hope that helpsSPC7 ~ Member#390 ~ £432.45 declared :j
