It's funny, this poster has a history of boasting about how well they are doing, and whining over the unfairness of minor amounts.

It's almost like they've got nothing better to do than boast and try to wind people up...

I said from the outset, the issue isn't the money. I can pay it no worries, but why would I want to give away 500 GBP if I can avoid paying it without any consequence?

Oh, I don't really care, I'm just amused at the disconnect between the success that you like to boast about and the reality of your situation.

For someone who got one of the first student loans, you seem to be lagging somewhat, yet strangely desperate to have strangers on the web be impressed.

I'll leave you to it. If you remember, the last time we exchanged comments you were hilariously trying to argue that Hull was a far better university than it is, and then desperate to point out that you did not go there. Fantasist, or troll, it doesn't really matter, you're not really getting a rise out of anyone today.

    Ciao.

I still don't follow. I have an outstanding SLC of a few hundred quid from 4-5 years ago. It was 99% paid off within 5 years of graduating.

    What are you talking about?

The loan was paid down to a couple of hundred quid, allowing me to request the SLC to stop payments from my salary around 2008/09. The outstanding amount has just been sitting there with no request for payment ever being made, so I left it.

It appears Hull has fallen down the rankings since my day, though I didn't go there, I would have no problem stating that I did had I attended. The main reason to not attend Hull, from my perspective, is that it exists in an utter dump of a city.

    Op,

Make an offer and see what happens.

Think of paying it as an insurance policy, just in case... You say you can afford to pay it now, so why not and then if you have problems in the near future (hence the 20/20 vision comment above I guess) and need to come back it's one less thing lurking in your past.

I phoned them today to make an offer of half the amount. The chap I spoke to said they weren't authorised to offer settlements like that, but gave me an address to write where they could consider such an offer.
