i go on the compairson site, then i call my current insurer and re apply (they load up the quote i did on their system) and get it for 15% less than my current year. They move all my info from my current policy to my new policy no hassel.0

I have both my contents and house insurance with Direct Line (not automatic renewing). I have a website 'account' with them where I can see my policies, I logon to my account and can still get a new quote which last time under cut my renewal letter quote by 35%. I just ignore the renewal letters and 'renew' online with the new quote.
Did you create this online 'account' yourself? I am also with Direct Line and will have to renew or switch quite soon but I am not aware of being able to do it this way.0 -

It's called the Quote and Policy manager. If you go to the Direct Line home screen and click on 'log on' there is an option to register, add your details and register, then go on to get a quote on line. It will hold your quotes in your 'account' and when you buy the insurance it shows the Policy Number and type of policy.
Make sure that your existing policy is not auto-renew, if it is auto-renew you will need to contact them to change to not auto-renew status.0 -
I do this every year if the premium for car or house/contents increases by more than 5%. I just get a new quote from the (same) insurer's website and if it's the same or less than last year, phone and ask for the same. If they won't offer it, just cancel and accept the new quote on the internet. No problem so far and have saved hundreds of pounds over the last few years.MumOf4Quit Date: 20th November 2009, 7pm

Ok I do know about this. When I first started this question, this was what I meant. Thought that Direct Line would reject it once they realised that I already had a policy.
I've never had a problem, in fact when I get a new quote it sits in my Quote and Policy listing with existing Policies.0
