Sorry, I didn't know you were above the law and could pick and choose which laws you want to adhere to and which you can ignore.

I'm sure that you would be less than impressed if it happened the other way around

To be clear, you don't need to get the other party's permission to record your phonecalls (because you're on the phone call too, i.e. it's your own conversation that you're recording).

BUT if you want to make the recording available to a third party (which it sounds like you do), then you need to have permission.

It's pointless and needlessly expensive to record calls from scammers.
Just put the 'phone down and don't engage them in conversation in the first place.

I wouldnt call you and pretend you have a damn virus on your pc and wanted £89 to get rid of it. I would not pretend to be a insulation company who wants money upfront then never hear from them again.

    Up yours!

I fully understand that I have researched the law. However I can 'bleep' out any details of company that reside in India that are pretending to be in the UK. So if someone calls me and says they are from WongaWonga Glass company for example I can just 'bleep' out the fictitious company name thats that.

Conversely, I wouldn't spend time and money needlessly recording these calls. What to you propose to do with these recordings? Send them to the "authorities" who can do nothing because they originate abroad of the UK?

Check out some of the funny recordings on youtube, its amazing what a 'scammer' will go through to try to get your money.

I wouldnt send anything to authorities, who would pay any attention anyway. No one in this country gives a crap who steals your money! There is no support for any victim who hands money over to scammers who pretend be computer experts over a phone scaring the crap out of you by saying your pc is going to be switched off by Microsoft.

My purpose is purely for fun! to get my own back on !!!!!! from fillthy countries trying to steal the good old fashioned pound from hard working citizens of the UK who get trod on by almost everyone from outside our little isolated island.

If I wanted to pretend to be a 'Wing Commander' and discuss the sudden and untimely death of my wife, who fell down the stairs, but I did not push her, is up to me, if anyone calling me, to do a survey about my washing machine will have to go through a tangent of gabble and pure nonsence for over 1 hour (time permitting of course) and maybe throw in an insurance claim and so much money in my bank account that i and purely so stupid that anyon can take it.

Yes, very childish, but at least lets make them work for their scams, and not fall over easy, oh by the way, Wing Commander murphey is slightly deaf so please speak up!

  • Asterisk free pbx is a free open source software, it is what most companies use. You have to have an ip phone line though (internet phone)

It's main purpose is the press 1 for this press 2 for that etc but it also records calls.

With this software you can login anywhere and download mp3 recording etc and view call logs etc.

A retired old gentleman recorded a scammer, who was convicted a few months ago. BBC Radio 4 played the recording on You and Yours. Interesting to know if anybody asked for the scammer's permission.
