Why are the claims so high.....

I've had a look at my charges for the last 6 years and I can spot around £60 ... when looking at the claim success stories people are talking about thousands of pounds (at least hundreds)... I don't get it seems that people must have been getting charged every month for the last 6 years to rack that up.... can someone explain if I am missing something?
does someone mind who is/was claiming a figure around a thousand pounds mind breaking it down for me so I can understand... feel I am missing something.... thanks!

It depends how often you went over your O/D limit and if you had a Direct Debit go out without having enough funds in your account etc.
Below is a real set of charges from a real account.

This is just 1 year.
You must have been careful with your account.:A
Hope this helps0 -
thanks fo the quick response...... the direct debit seems to be the problem...... so is the charge the same amount as the direct debit value......?0

Yes in this case.0

DD's are evil. If you ask anyone it will be pretty much Direct Debits for the majority of people that have attracted and then snowballed bank charges out of control. The Direct Debit Guarantee states that the bank must repay any amount wrongly paid on a DD but there is no obligation to refund a charge incurred by such an error.
The minute you relinquish any kind of control over your money you are wide open to abuse. Its not right but it happens. I avoid DD like the plague

I don't have any DD's either - I transfer the money via internet banking.
I've had companies take 3 DD in one go then refuse to refund it - yes, tried the DD guarantee but I still didn't get a refund... meanwhile as I was out of work and NOT claiming benefits so no I couldn't afford to pay something 3 times (the company involved said I will not have to pay anything for 3 months - how nice.. shame they took two the next month too!
I explained it my bank and they said it had nothing to do with them despite that they allowed my money to go out of my account without my permission! and they didn't refund the charges either!
Mind you over 6 years my charges comes to just under a grand and I got made redundant (only got one months redundency money!) and it was just after 9/11 so couldn't get any work and I was applying for cleaning jobs and anything else I could see - I was over qualified despite taking most stuff of my CV! I never got any dole money despite working for twenty years and my landlord told HB that I hadn't paid 8 months of rent when I had - he got HB as well on top of the rent I paid - nice for him! and my deposit - and I have no family to help me out! so I havn't done as badly as I thought.. .I was thinking I was totally useless! (Not that I'm boasting.. I am not proud of this! London is expensive for a single person on a low wage!
Got to move again soon... back into the pit of dodgy landlords and overpriced flea pits - can't wait :rolleyes:Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date
now at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0
