Fair price for soffits and fascias???

House is a three bed semi set on a hill so the gable side is quite high
Have been quoted £1750 and I've negotiated this down to £1500
All timber removed new soffits fascias and bargeboards, white UPVC, guttering.
Company has done work on four houses nearby I've done some research and everyone who has used them has been happy with work.
Workmanship guarantee ten years product guarantee 15 years
What do you think. I feel happy with this given that out of three quotes I got, the first company quoted £2,500:eek:

as an x double glazing salesman (sorry but only for 6 weeks)

the prices quoted for this by the big firms are very OTT

find a local firm that others have used and you should be able to drop the price by at least half

its actually not an expensive thing to do but the big firms cahrge silly prices

my parents got a large 3 bed semi done for £500 from a good builder inc guttering & drain pipes

avoid salesmen but only talk to the guy who will do the work himself

the other trick with salesmen is to offer them £100 & a bottle of whiskey for their cheapest price
as they usually dont make this on a window deal - but pay once the job is done to your satisfaction

    same with cars etc

Does the guttering go round the side of the house aswell it seems very steep to me I am not in that business but my hubby is :D
I know that for a terraced house he charges around £595 and for a semi such as your own (with three sides to do) a job he recently completed was £890
I would be careful of people who knock on doors giving prices and smaller local companies are likely to be better priced my hubby has been called to more than enough jobs where guttering and roofs have been bodged because someone let a doorknocker loose on their home

I have also recently had a quote for the fascia's, soffits & downpipes replacing from a recommended local company and was quoted £1480, so your quote looks pretty comparable.

I did get a leaflet through the letterbox from a company offering to replace the fascia's for £720. When I looked into the details however, their service basically involved covering the existing wooden fascia's with a PVCu coating, which is not generally recommended.
  • If relying on the 10 year guarantee as a sales point, who is the workmanship guarantee with?

Remember, what is to stop some small businesses shutting up shop and therefore your guarantee is worthless. A company round here has their work under guarantee with an insurance company. Haven't read the details but seems a better way to go with small companies.

I think with alot of these companies (inc window fitters) it actually depends on the crew you get to your house on the day. Might be worth having a chat to them before they start with a brew and a biscuit what you want and the standard of work you expect, in an informal sort of way.

    Good luck
