Just received an email offering free .xyz domain registrations from https://www.eurodns.com with discount code 'NewsletterXYZ' for the first 1000 customers.
I've just regged 2 with 2 separate accounts.

Wow, I've registered and my order is currently being processed. Fingers crossed it goes through.0

Doesn't appear to be a good deal to me. You get it free for the first year then it's £8 a year after that. With no option to pay for more years in advance to get it cheaper.0

It's free for the first year so saving the £8. Good if you just happened to be wanting a new domain name. Also you are not required to enter credit card details so no risk of auto renewal next year, simply let it expire if no longer required.0 -

If you no longer require it, what if you do require it. You are then stuck with paying £8 per year for a domain name that you could get for less than £8 for 2 years.
So, you get 1 year free than pay twice as much for every other year you use it.
I really can't see a good reason why someone would want a domain name for just one year.0 -

The price is on par with many other domain registrars, so if you are/were wanting a .xyz domain then you are getting first year free. You can always transfer it out at renewal time.
EuroDNS are one of the better domain registrars out there, maybe you can stick with the likes of 123-reg and 1&1, who have big marketing budgets to attract the sheep but give zero customer service.0 -
I have 5 domains with 123. What customer services are needed unless you host with them which has nothing to do with domain registration?
Once registered then you just set the nameserver entry to your hosting company and the only involvement by 123 after that is an email asking about renewal, and you can automate that anyway. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The fact that 123-reg are probably the only domain registrar that charges £10 to transfer out a .uk domain when the cost to them is zero.0 -

I agree. I have a few domains with 123 and there is no customer service involved. Every two years I get an email telling me they will auto renew the domain unless I cancel, then I get one saying the domains have been renewed. Every three years I get one telling me my debit card is about to expire, and that's it.
123 is extremely straight forward and you have complete control. So if you need their customer services then it is because you don't know what you are doing or have done something stupid.0 -

That's great. I bet you use them for hosting too.0
