Men's shoes - less than 4 months and breaking?

Hi guys,
I don't buy many clothes
but on 15th March I bought some work shoes from Next. Today I notice the sole is coming away from the shoe around the front, on the right shoe.
I guess what I want to know is, is that what people would expect from £30 shoes? Or should I take them back? I have no receipt, only the statement on my credit card. Would they just laugh in my face like this :rotfl: ?
Thanks!

No, they won't laugh but it would depend on how you wear the shoes. 4 months for a pair of shoes used everyday for work etc may be reasonable but for occasional use not so.
I use the rest of the shoes for guidance, generally for well worn shoes the condition of the non faulty parts are relevant. The heels etc give a good indication on how they are used.
Everyone burns through shoes at different rates, take them back and see what they say.0 -
It would depend on what type of shoes they are and how much they have been worn.
Were they sold as suitable as work shoes or were they dress shoes? Work shoes are for everyday use while dress shoes are probably designed for maybe five uses a year.
What sort of walking is done in them? is it just into work then sat at a desk all day with them having little wear or 40 hours a week of being on your feet walking around?
Are they used a lot outdoors or mostly indoors? Just between house and car then car and work or walking three miles each way to work?0 -
Cheers for the input guys. They definitely weren't sold as dress shoes, just standard work ones. I wear them 5 days a week for an office job, which I drive to; so not a lot of walking.
The left one is fine, the bond is still strong, no sign of the sole coming away at all; and I don't walk more on my right foot than my left :-)
So I'll take them back and ask, I guess the worst they can say is no eh!0 -
As it is under 6 months since purchase then it is for them to prove that the fault was not inherent. i.e. they need to prove that you caused the damage (which they almost certainly can't).
I suspect they'll replace them.0 -

I drive around all day and go through shoes like they are going out of fashion ! They all seem to go on the right hand shoes and I put it down to the position my foot is in , whilst foot is on accelerator. Next shoes aren't fantastic, I learned my lesson with them and now go to Brantano footwear and buy rubber soled, leather top ones from them, round £30 mark mostly. Had a paitr of Hush puppies which lasted 6 months before they cracked, in exactly the same place.
Have a go at taking them back, it is worth the visit. You seem chilled out in your other posts, so you know you wont get anywhere with shouting, just play nice guy and they most likely will swap them.
Was the purchase from their clearance shops? if so, the goods there are not as good is in the normal shops too.0 -
Cheers rusty, I don't think I could ever shout in a shop, I used to work in M&S so I know how staff like to be treated :-) I've got a few shoes from brantano, though for some reason I've always seen Next as the place for smart shoes! Dunno why really.
Trip to the Trafford centre for me tonight then :-)0 -
Success! Exchanged them for me. They weren't overly keen but didn't really argue... though did get a slightly embarrassing lecture on choosing the cheapest line of shoe (£30!)

Still, good result!0 -
Ever since Amazon gave me a full refund (£55) for a pair of shoes I'd worn maybe 100 times in 11 months (one started to let in water - they were my smart 'waterproof' pair) I'm using the "they should last at least a year" as my rule of thumb..0
