Definately time for a bed once they start climbing out. My son had to go in a bed at 18m he climbed over the top and got caught in the bars on the way down. Broke his arm :(

I would put a guard on the side of his bed to stop him falling out and a gate on his door as long as he won't be able to climb over it.

DS was a climber at a ridiculously early age. I bit the bullet about bought a Thomas toddler bed (in sale for about £35) and it is perfect. I know some people think the half way house sort of thing is a waste of money, but it's worked out perfectly for us. Worth a look OP.
