O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 8th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Hi, I hope no one minds I've started the thread but I have to get something off my chest. My beautiful beautiful collie Sam was put to sleep a couple of hours ago as he had catastrophic liver and kidney failure. I just wanted to put it out here that he was the best dog a person could ever know, he was gentle, faithful and loving. He always knew when I wasn't well and used to sit for ages with his head in my lap so I could cuddle him and he never minded when I used to cry into his fur. I will miss him so much, we are all broken hearted so sleep well Sam, you were a Good Dog x

    Morning to all

Dumpling-I'm so sad to hear about your dog, lots of hugs your way.

Struggling emotionally a bit at the moment, really going to try and cheer myself up today. Baking a cake for my Wednesday toddler group, coffee at a friends house this afternoon, got a DVD set aside for my ironing tonight and I may buy myself some flowers.

The sprogs have just awoke so time to get ready for work and school.

Hope everyone has a lovely day

  • DUMPLING I'm so sad for you at having lost Sam but it's the least we can do for our furries to end thier suffering when they are really poorly and there is no hope of them getting better. It's responsible pet ownership and the hurt will ease in time and you'll have the lovely memories of life with Sam to look back on and smile about love. Many hugs to all of you, this hurt will ease and you'll be happy again, Lyn xxx.

dumpling So sorry about Sam  xx

The strawberry runners have rooted well, so I'll have plenty of fruit next year. I haven't had much luck with them in the past, it's a bit hit and miss. I haven't done anything different this time so it must be down to the weather. The blackbirds haven't stolen any blueberries this year, all nine are still on the plant, lol. I've spread the onions out to dry a bit, in a few days I'll plait them.

I've started a new blanket. Managed 11 rows last night before I started falling asleep, so I went to bed early. I had a good night's sleep and am raring to go this morning :D I have a couple of loads of washing to do and I need to do a bit of gardening. I have the rest of the day to myself so hopefully the blanket will be finished by teatime.

    Morning all,

Dumpling I am so sorry about Sam, its really heart breaking when we lose a beloved pet xx

Another nice day in the making off to work for me and dd, same place again so saves a bit of petrol.

Spag bol for dinner so nice and easy, I am finding that cooking all day really outs me off doing a dinner at night, so quick and easy for the moment !

Washing tonight and a quick tidy round.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work early, but not stupid early.

Blue sky and sunshine here, warm already. Greenhouse watered, no need to water the plants outside as had a good rain on them last night.

Dinner last night was the stir fry, I checked through what I had in the fridge and I had some chorizo – so sliced that up and put that in with the stir fry, then added the prawns, then just did the mushroom chow mein in another pan – was all eaten and enjoyed, and it was nice as it was something different. Ice cream for dessert for those that wanted some. Tonight will be an easy dinner of fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg as I’m working at the other office today and the hairdresser is coming. I’ll be really pleased to get my hair cut it’s really grown and is making me hot in the warm weather.

Stopped off at the SM on the way to work yesterday to buy some printer ink, found the one I wanted checked the price, went to the checkout and was charged £25 but the label on the shelf said £22 – as I didn’t really have time to wait about I was just going to leave it, then the OS in me came out and so I went to Customer Services and the assistant came with me back to the shelf and I was right they were displaying a price and charging £3 more at the checkout. So I was given double the difference back – I only really noticed because it was the only thing I bought, had it been mixed in with a whole shop I wouldn’t have noticed. Will be keeping an eye out for this and have noticed a few times where items are scanned more than once as well.

Work was busy yesterday in the morning then did ease off in the afternoon but I didn’t get off on time for my lunch – I was late, so it made the afternoon very short and all of a sudden it was 3.45pm. Hoping today passes as quickly. Have had a credit of £20 ish put in bank today – from when I bought the new fridge/freezer at Xmas and the old repair warranty should have been cancelled and the new one started – they started the new one but didn’t cancel the old one, so I’ve been chasing them for the past 6 weeks and at last they have cancelled the old insurance and given me a refund, a little more to take off a debt!

Have a great day, remember the sunscreen x

    Keep safe and well x
