Can a PC read a Mac disc?

I have an old imac G3, this was mainly used for storing my music collection. Unfortunately the mac is now deceased.

All my files are on an external hard drive which is mac formatted.

My question is; are there any applications which will run on a PC to enable it to access the data on this drive?

Cheers.

According to my MAC expert friend your model has IDE hard drives. These are standard drives which will work in PC's.

You need add on software to read HFS which is the disk formatting MAC uses on the hard drive.

You can connect the drive either internally by making it a slave (using jumpers on the back of the drive) and hooking it up to the slave channel on the same IDE cable, OR buying a USB caddy for it and sticking it in a USB 2.0 port :)

Maybe someone else can advise on reliable HFS reading software but its easily done ^-^

You need a copy of a application called MacDrive. Have a goggle for it. Don't know the cost but it enables windows to read HFS+ mac discs.

Brilliant, installed macdrive 7, works well. Weeks free trial on the product, then $50, will probably end up paying for the full version if it proves as good as first impressions.
