Sometimes you have to go back to basics and go out more.

Go out with hubby regularly to the same places.

    pub/bar/restaurants sports events etc.

Anywhere that has music/comedy, Sunday brunches etc. that gives some focus/reason to be there.

It takes time to create acquaintances that may develop.

Hobbies are the other way to create the acquaintance stage.

    You can't rush friendship

Does hubby have any work people you can start to develop through parties/BBQ again with some common interest like sport can help as it can be on neutral ground to start with.

USA is very diverse so very much depends where you are what will work with the "locals"

If you are in a military area there will be loads of transient people many of the partners will be service widows(never see their partners) but can be a funny bunch military politics is a nightmare for an outsider.
