COMPETITION - win a proof copy of a brilliant new novel!
Category: Writing and Poetry
Scapegallows by Carol Birch is a historical tale of adventure and passion - think Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn or Frenchman's Creek. It is features a spirited young heroine who falls in love with the wrong sort of man - and because of him she is sentenced to hang not once, but twice. I'm reading it at the moment and it's great - a real page-turner. Working with books, I love words, and the title is a particularly evocative one - as is the definition:

Scapegallows: One who deserves and has narrowly escaped the gallows, a slip-gibbet, one for whom the gallows is said to groan

I have 4 early proof copies of Scapegallows to give away. We don't publish until November, so here's your chance to read it before anyone else. To win a copy, be a wordsmith - coin a word and definition and post it as a comment on this blog. The best four will win!
