Manufacturer Guarantee Advice

Hi,
I have purchased a leather sofa today from local retail store. It was an ex- display model & a clamp on the underside is slightly loose. It was discounted by nearly a third so a good buy but it should have a manufacturers guarantee of 10 years. The sales guy has advised as its ex display it will only have a 12 month guarantee from the store ? Is this correct as I'm sure it should still have the full 10 years :undecided
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

A manufacturers warranty is in addition to your statutory rights so there is nothing in law to suggest a minimum warranty is mandatory. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

Manufacturers are free to set their own terms and conditions regarding warranties and if they want to disallow the 10 year period for ex-display furniture, this is perfectly legal.
They may well do this because in the time that the sofa was on display in the shop it might have had many times the use that it would have had whilst in someone's home and some customers may have been less than caring while trying it out.
Did the retailer advise you of the lack of manufacturers guarantee before you made the purchase or it it only come to light after you had paid?0 -
Manufacturers guarantee is different from the retail store's guarantee. (unless they manufactured it)
When you fall outside the retain store's 12 month guarantee and if you don't need to use the Sale of Goods Act, then you can contact the manufacturer to try and claim from their 10 year guarantee if any issues arise.
Edit: I should have refreshed the page before posting. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Thank you all for your advice. They did say it only had 12month guarantee & they have added it is ex display on my receipt as well but its a LaZBoy so hoping it wont fall apart anytime soon.It was an impulse buy as I thought it was too good to be missed and we were shopping for a new sofa but maybe I should have waited for a sale one instead.:undecided
