Right basic situation, on 26th June I went to book my car in for its mot and service through the main Peugeot website outline booking form, so went through all the basic bits and bobs putting in my details and the final quote came out at £29.99 for a 3+ interim service and MOT with a air conditioning recharge, now I know this is an error because the 'fixed' price offer is £229, however I thought I would chance it so put it in to be confirmed.

now no shock here but the garage emailed me back saying they couldn’t do it for this price etc etc saying there was an error on the website and this will be fixed, and then quoted some other options to me, which also had some discrepancies to the advertised prices, ie they said a MOT on its own was £49 yet the website price says £39.

anyway long story short, I didn’t confirm anything with them at that point as had other things on my mind, so I have gone back online today (7th July) to book it in again, and the quote is still coming up as £29.99 for the 3+ service and MOT with a air conditioning recharge.

now my thoughts are that if after over a week since they have been informed about a possible pricing error, if they have not fixed it in that time it would not be unreasonable to assume that the website price offered is actually correct, so should probably honour the price offered, once again not expecting them too but does anyone think I have any chance of getting this or am I just wasting my time and should just except the higher price?

If you are wondering we will not be using the garage after the warranty period is over next year, but we currently have MOT cover within our warranty if we use a Peugeot recommended centre, so am having to use them this time.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

From your post, "the garage emailed me back saying they couldn’t do it for this price". That's not going to change.

What's on the website is merely an "offer to treat" ... if they advise a revised amount prior to concluding the contract then there's nothing wrong.

If the "offer" remains on the website for an extended period then this could be deemed a "bait and switch" tactic. (Which might get Trading Standards' interest). However I would not class a week (after notification) as being an extended period ... it can take time for such website change requests to get actioned.

It can take months for my company to update anything on a website due to beaurocracy, so it's not unreasonable it'll take them more than a week.

You know the price is wrong and the website is out of date, they've phoned to tell you, and they're under no obligation to provide the service for the website figure especially since it's out by a factor of 10 and less than the standard MOT cost, so there's no way it's "reasonable".

You can chance it, and take the car in, but expect to be paying more up front or being refused. They aren't likely to take on the job if they'll lose money on it (the parts + fees will come to more than the £29.99)

cheers guys pretty much what i was expecting, although i wouldnt expect a website update to take that long personally, as it really is not a major change, but hey ho

How little you know of corporate bureaucracies. ;)

Also it depends on how the website is structured, and where it gets the data from. What would appear (to a layman) to be a simple change may be nothing of the sort.
