Monday 7th July - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
Morning  Another week off :T hope the weather is going to be good!
So dgd gets me up at 5am and now has gone for her first nap! Going to call the HV today & ask some advice about this. Before she was ill she was sleeping in sometimes until 7.
DFW things for today:
* checked banking & shifted some funds
* put childcare money from dd into bills account
* going to visit friend today for a play date & a catch up
* purchase Portuguese CD & book from Amazon
* do stock inventory & meal plan
* check onepoll
* Change energy supplier. Hopefully get £30 cashback - don't think last time we changed this was offered?
* hopefully dd will have dgd for a few hours today & I can get on & sand some of the hallway doors
* all meals from stores
* buy some bread and milk
* finish planting flowers in troughs on decking - got 3 packs on Friday from B&Q for a grand total of 90p :T original price was £11
Yay!!!! My Kobo is still working! Dgd threw it in the bath yesterday so I stuck it in a bowl of rice until just now and it's still working :j
Think that's all I need to do today. Hope it's a painless Monday for you all! x

Good Morning All
dnms - Thanks for starting us off today and oops re: the kobo
Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.
Son's birthday today so should be a good day but feeling extremely down (mum is almost 80 and has been in bed for the last 3 days (totally unheard of) feeling and looking shocking - phoned to get Drs appointment and he told her to get in a taxi down to the surgery, I have since rung and refused, shes just too ill. My brother called over yesterday but refused to visit mum cos he didnt want to catch whatever it was shes got, other brother is on holiday but never visits anway - so I feel that everything is falling on me, hubby and son again as we wont sit back and see her struggling or alone, but can feel the stress affecting me and my body). Has been a manic morning already but waiting for a Dr to visit now. Todays little list:
Packed lunches for DH & DS - Done
Check Banks - Done
Check swapits - Done
Meals from cupboards/freezer -
Clear emails (& unsubscribe any no longer wanted) - wip
Nectar Adpoints -
Knit - find new project

Afternoon Campers,
An early start today as got up at 5.50 a.m raring to go!
*Two loads of laundry washed on Economy 7 before cheap tariff ended.
*All line-drying in the sunshine.
*Did rubber pork - roast dinner yesterday, hot pork cobs tonight, a tray of pork slices in gravy for the freezer & a packed lunch.
*Made pineapple chutney with 2 of the enormous pineapples I got from the market on Saturday. It's really yummy, can't wait to have a big blob of it on some cheese on toast :-) Made sure I included a smaller pretty jar, as that will be tarted up later in the year for a present.
*Made lemon pickle. Doesn't need cooking, just got to stand the jar somewhere sunny & remember to shake it every day. (Took opportunity as lemons v cheap on the market at the moment).
*Baked & decorated some little cakes for mr f's youth group.
*Watered veggies.
*Cut home grown lettuce & cucumber for a big salad tonight.
*Did a couple of surveys.
*Started researching cat insurance - might change providers this time, as can get big nectar points with Sainsbury's pet insurance at the moment.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Knit more of current project for present box.
*Tweaked meal plans - need to bake some bread rolls tomorrow, so may as well make a pizza at the same time.
*Weed courgette bed, but not until I've had a cup of tea.
Cheers,
f x
Ziggy - sorry to hear of your troubles. Hope it's nothing too serious with your Mum, it doesn't sound too good. Try not to let the stress affect you too much. You really can only do what you can do, tho' it does sound as though your brothers could be a bit more helpful, forgive me for saying so!
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0
