This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Monday again already? Where do these weekends go and why does the weekdays never disappear so fast? This time next week will be the start of my short weeks while DH is off for the Summer, so bring it on!
Had a naughty takeway to celebrate end of exam marking last night, even though some marks still need to go on the computer system - the tennis got in the way
JackieO - I always keep some 0.5% hydrocortisone cream in the first aid box, you can get it from supermarkets rather than having to go to the chemist. Hope the midgy bites didn't irritate you all night x
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

I have more beans to sort out, Jo Chick is looking a tiny bit better (not holding my breath though  ), most of the white onions and some garlic needs pulling up and I need to sort out the tinned food cupboard – not entirely sure why it's such a mess, it wasn't me
I spent most of yesterday sitting or standing, I didn't actually move around much. So I'm going to stretch everything out and have a careful bounce on my rebounder

Morning all
Off to work in a few minutes, ttftm I know what you mean the weekends fly by
Had a lovely weekend though with the Tour de France , managed to watch it as it passed through the nearby village . The support was incredible :T
Dd1 is back from Tenerife looking very brown and healthy, I could do with a holiday in the sun but that's not going to happen any time soon
Have a good day everyone (((hugs))) to all who need xx0 -
Good Morning and thanks for the heads up TTFTM.they have driven me nuts all night, its my own fault sitting in the gloaming in the garden on Saturday night.without a cardi on,pesky critters .
Well another week ahead and time is racing now and soon it will be time for our annual jaunt to the Isle of Wight for a fortnight. We are off to Freshwater this year for a change .Last years holiday house was really nice but we couldn't get it this year as the owners had decided to stop renting it out. Shame really as it was exactly what we wanted. But it will be nice to go somewhere different for a change. I start colleting small boxes for packing odds and ends in shortly as we take quite a bit in the way of staples with us.with our tribe it saves us quite a bit.I sort out my 'tinned' stuff and they get packed along with sugar, tomato ketchup, jams etc.We have been holidaying like this for the past 10 years and have got it down to a fine art.The boys dig out the cricket bats and tennis raquets and pop-up tents.with two cars (mine is a seven seater) everything gets packed securely leaving the two front seats clear ,one for me obviously and one for which ever boy comes with me(they take it in turns. We even take the hampster and two dogs along:):)The boys have a small rucksack each which they can put their stuff they want for amusement books games etc and we set off in cavalcade on our trip.DD has the picnic lunch which we eat on the ferry going over(another saving when you have a large family)so if you see a family of three adults and four boys and two dogs on the IoW ferry in August come and say hello, you'll probably get a bit of picnic of the boys haven't scoffed it all
:):)
Time to get a wriggle on as its school run then washing out this morning. The sun is up and shining nicely
Have a good day everyone

Morning all,
Nice day here again, off to work for me and dd we are at the same place today which will save a bit of running round.
Dinner tonight will be gammon steak and something, probably mash and peas, nice and quick.
Will do a wash tonight and get it on the airer.
Better dash have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work early, but not stupid early.
Blue sky and sunshine here, warm already. Washing on the line. Greenhouse and plants watered.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, new potatoes, carrots, cauli, green beans, peas, broccolli, stuffing, Yorkshires and gravy. Strawberries for those that had wanted some for dessert.
Have had to do a bit of adjustment to the menu as there wasn’t any meat left from the chicken as I’d hoped – it wasn’t as big as I thought, so had a look through the freezer and have found a part bag of prawns, so the stir fry tonight will have prawns in it and I have some bacon to use up so that’ll go in too! I really don’t want to spend any more money on food this week as I’ve spent a fortune in the last couple of weeks, need to be much more careful. Having said that the printer has run out of ink and I need to do some printing so will stop off at the SM to buy some more, but I have got some vouchers so hoping I can buy with those. I can now see a direct impact of not cooking/baking those extra bits yourself, I haven’t bothered to do the baking since it’s been so hot and now I can really see where that helps having something in the tins! Will be getting back to that asap.
Back to work for me today – it will probably be a manic Monday as the end of last week our local town had its festival from Wednesday to Saturday – we get loads of visitors and many locals don’t come in to the town as they can’t get parked etc, so we’re likely to be busy.
Have a great day, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x

Hi everyone,
We're back from Yorkshire, it was a busy weekend with 5 people visiting at various times.
We'd decided to go into Skipton by train to watch the Tour because so many roads were closed but we waited on the platform with about 200 other people and two full trains came in. We weren't allowed on so we had to go in by car, which worked out well because we used a back route and managed to park in the rugby club. I don't think much of the rail company though, they only ran the two scheduled trains, one had four carriages and the other two! You'd think someone would have twigged that a few more might be needed.
I've got mainly housework to do today, with a bit of my online course - I hope it becomes a bit more in-depth than it as last week, and the last of the binding to sew on the quilt I'm making.
Have a good day.0 -
jackie o - we are off to the isle of wight in august too. just for a week though. i havent been there since i was about 10ish so really looking forward to it. most people i have spoken to have said it hasnt changed a lot in that time. Morning everyone it's changeable here today, lovely sunshine at the moment but showers out of the blue every now and then. He Who Knows has gone to the allotment and I've caught up with the ironing and tidied the house. I've made use of some storecupboard basics for lunch today and used red lentils, spinach from the garden an onion and a tomato along with a couple of ounces of cheese to make a lentil savoury for us which I'll add some frankfurters to for substance, should be tasty and I'll serve it with mashed potato made yesterday.
Not much else planned today so I'll continue sorting drawers and cupboards upstairs and haveing a general tidy up.
Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all,
Overcast today and 16c, have clothes washed and more to go on, will hang them on airers and banisters.
Need to water baskets and greenhouse, we have had rain over the last few days but not enough to be of any value so will probably have to water all containers but will leave that until later, laziness I know, but doing a minimum these days as hip is really sore.
Salmon for dinner today, will have it with bok choi, green beans and steamed new spuds, British Queens, none of the waxy little things that go by the name of new potatoes thank you!
Need to brush Mossy later, he is dropping tufts of hair all over the place, not sure how he will like that, but needs must....
