30y old boiler here. Works flawlessly. Old conventional boilers are reliable. Little electronics, a gas valve, thermostat etc. I'll change it but only when it's broken.

Might be inefficient but the difference is smallive yet to hear if modern boilers will see working lives of 20-40 years

Like i say, just changed a 17 year old boiler that was still working perfectly. It was 1 of the first new generation electronic combi boilers but at that time non condensing. I swapped it out as it was right time for us, nothing else.

Will the very latest generation last 20 to 40 years? I can'r imagine they will, nothing else with complicated electronic seems to, it just the tales of woe about 3 and 4 year old ones that's the big worry which is why the OP is right to deliberate long and hard.

Incidentally I put the old boiler up ion ebay with no reserve, thought some spares supplier would buy it for £25 for breaking. Guy from 80 miles away bought it and it was swapped out for his identical 1 within a couple of days, yes, i thought :eek::eek: too.

    £127 pocketed.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I have just taken advantage if the boiler cashback deal and the installer gave me a voucher to claim my money back. So I had pay upfront.

They did offer me a payment plan until I got my money (£13 per month) back but thought I would pay it upfront.

The boiler they installed was the Ideal code and is a combi and flue heat recovery all in one unit. Its a bit bigger than your normal combi, so make sure you have room.

The company we used is Heatkey based in Wrexham, but I think they cover all the Northwest but was a quick exchange.

I will keep y'all updated with the cashback situation
