Fixing broken skirting board?

We've ripped out a fixed wardrobe in our main bedroom and found the skirting board has had 1cm pulled off the top in order to fit the wardrobe in. This has left a gap where the wall is not plastered.

We currently have a plasterer re-skimming upstairs and are wondering what to do;
a) Rip out all the skirting boards and re-plaster underneath + fit brand new skirting (more expensive option)
b)Try and fix the broken skirting by adding 1cm of wood to the top, sand down, prime and repaint
We want to go with b) but not sure if we'll get a good finish. Any thoughts?

It looks like the skirting board is just flat right angled wood? If so, personally I would definately jus try to repair it. To do the skirting boards properly from scratch would cost a load. Boards, joiner to fit, decorating a materials and time. You could pay a professional carpenter to repair it for less than replacing the whole thing.
Others may suggest better way. But I would be tempted to find a bit of wood about the right size, trim it up as best as possible. Then attach it with a few headless nails. Then fill it all in, sand back and paint. It might not be perfect, but I can't believe the time/money of redoing the whole thing would be so much better to be worth it.0 -
Exactly as above, pointless going to more trouble and expense.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Remove the paint and fill the hole with fragments of wood and wood filler, sand down and paint.0
