When I went 3/4 years ago I was told to take Jamaican Dollars. I think you can use US dollars in the touristy bigger places, but the Jamaicans apparently prefer to transact in their own currency.0

when we went in october it would always be cheaper in jamaican dollar once we did our maths...they will quote us$ first before local price but you deffinately got more for your pound if you use jamaican. hth0

We found Jamaican best, the exchange rate works out in our favour too. Food and drink was very reasonable compared to the UK.
If you do take US paying in one currency and receiving change in another is a pain, you`ll never know if you have the right change without a calculator! We did pay for numerous meals, some shopping and the hotel on the credit card in US$ and got a pretty good exchange rate there.
Have a great time,

Its just the US is a good rate at the mo?
ps. did you enjoy it?0 -
yes because our pound is strong and the dollar week so you will get more on the pound exchange rate...
loved it for the weather, sea food, the big sweet mangoes, the ganja and most of all the the hospitality of the local people, you may feel they are harrassing you when they hustle you jewelery, wooden craft etc...but they are just as happy if you give them the time of day to chat or say hello and one of the most friendly people i have come across. we loved it and i hope you do too.0
