charged whilst in credit

Hi everyone,
I have looked through the posts and can't find anything similar to my question. i do apologies if it has been addressed in a previous thread.

Today I recieved a response from Barclays to my first letter asking them to refund all charges on one of my accounts. They say that they are looking into my complaint but are unable to comply to the 14 day timescale I set out using the template letter from this site. That is fine and dandy and I am about to move on to the next stage and send the next letter anyway saying as well that I consider their time scale of 8 weeks to be unsatisfactory. My questions, however, are these;
The majority of the charges laid against this account were accrued whilst I was very much in credit with the bank, (the money being in other accounts. I was overseas at the time and didn't always manage to transfer funds between accounts in time.) Should I highlight this in my next letter? My claim on this account is just over £500 including interest and I really want to push for the full amount. Will this be more or less likely to get me an early payout? Is it better just to stick to the standard letter? I will be making a much larger claim on a different account after this and am using this one to try to ensure that I make fewer mistakes on the the next one when it really counts.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

J

    In my opinion I would just stick to the standard letter. No offence but i dont think the bank would care if you were on the moon. I would just go with the templates and do it that way.

    Good luck!!!

    I have to agree with xlesleyann here. The bank doent care about circumstances, they just took the money regardless. You should apply the same cold and calculating methods to getting the money back ;)

    Even if there is a valid reason for the charge (ie it was your fault), the amounts they charge are still far too high, which is really the reason why the charges are being repaid - not the circumstance, but the amount.

    If you want to use the Financial Ombudsman procedure to claim your charges then you must follow their time scale

    If you intend to take it to court, get your money faster, and charge interest then stick to your time scale. Once you have started court action you are in a far better position to get them to pay out in FULL. I’ve just been offered 152% of my claimed charges!

    In reference to the second part of your message and its title, you will no doubt notice if you bank on-line that there are infact 2 balances per account, the Balance as shown on the statement section and the Current Balance show at the top of the screen. The Current Balance is the one to watch as its your cleared funds balance. If you pay a cheque in it appears on your Statement Balance as the day it is paid in but takes around 5 days before it appears in the Current Balance. The reverse happens with card payments. They affect your Current Balance immediately but don’t appear on the statement for 3 to 5 days. It is generally the fact that you have uncleared funds or your Current Balance has gone beyond your overdraft facility that incurs charges.
    Got It & Spent It :dance:
    IKEA CARD = £120 charges = £175 received (146%)
    MARBLES = £450 charges = £370 received (82%)
    I.F. = £494 charges = £494 received (100%)
    CAPITAL ONE = £981 charges = £1,489.03 (152%)
    BARCLAYCARD = £580 charges = £786.12 (136%)
    On Hold :mad:
    A+L = £722 charges (target = 147%)
    BARCLAYS = £1,405 charges (target = 128%)
    BARCLAYS = £175 charges (target = 140%)
    ABBEY = £3,220 charges (target = 148%)

    Thank you all for your prompt feedback. I have decided to stick with the program and send the standard letters to my own timetable.

    Al Mac, I would have had no objection at all to the bank moving funds from one account to another to ensure that none of the accounts was over drawn. When I opened the accounts it was with this purpose in mind.

    once again thx to you all
