Bulk buying wine

I am wanting to buy approximately 50 bottles of wine for my wedding in 3 weeks. I have done a quick search online as it was suggested to try a wine merchant, but with so many results I feel a bit overwhelmed. I live near a large Asda supermarket, so had decided to just make the most of their offers. Before I do this though, I just wanted to know if anyone had any other 'money saving' suggestions?

Why not buy no wine at all - it is a complete waste of money.

If you are going to buy a large quantity from Asda speak to the manager first. You may be able to negotiate extra discount , or some sort of "use or return" agreement.

Maybe try any local vineyards? There are some good english wine about. Might be worth popping into one. Most should let you sample so take someone with you and see what they might do.

I got Chapel Down near me in Tenderden and they do a few bottles of good wine. They did offer a deal but since I work for a supermarket sadly they couldnt beat it.

Thanks for the replies. Will enquire if we have any vineyards locally and approach the manager at Asda.

Aldi do good cheap wine, you can get bottles for around £4 each, and some of them have won awards

I have a lovely ros! for £2.59 a bottle. It's 8 or 9% instead of 11 or 12% but it tastes amazing.

Depends on your budget. I can recommend Virgin Wines. Give them a call, explain what you're doing and they'll be happy to help. They also do a deal where they'll refund you if you don't like it, so, buy a case of something (they do some cracking wines for £6-7 a bottle) and if you don't like it they'll refund the remaining case and the bottle you tried. If you like it they'll do you a couple more cases and they seem fairly good at negotiating a deal. Otherwise, do you have a local independent wine merchant? We've got Theatre of Wine in Greenwich and they are just fabulous!

Perhaps look for a "buy 6 bottles for 25% off offer" Not sure if some supermarkets do it all of the time or if its often but I see the offer regularly. 25% is a big chunk of money...

I was looking on the Virgin Wines website and it did seem to offer the best deals. I am wanting to spend at the most £5 per bottle really.

Not sure if we have an indepdent wine merchant locally. I just tend to know which Pinot Grigios I like from Asda :rotfl:.
