Critical illness claim

Options
Hi I have recently finished cancer treatment, I was diagnosed back in October, the last thing on my mind over the past few months has been to file an insurance claim. It suddenly dawned on me today that I could have had a critical illness claim on my policy, however my policy states that I have to file a claim within 6 months of diagnosis, which I am now outwith. I know that I am probably clutching at straws but I'm trying to figure out whether I would have a case to fight this.

I would be grateful of any insights.

Thanks

Most providers dont enforce timescales. Especially during periods of treatment. As long as records are good and still exist, many will go back much further. Put your claim in.

I used to work for a life office, and we never enforced timescales on critical illness claims. I've no personal knowledge of other providers, but I'd be very surprised if they did anything different.

I always understood that the reason for the limit was in case we needed to find out more about the person's condition. For example, if somebody makes a claim because "I've had a problem with my heart", then that can be anything from multiple heart attacks to a slightly elevated pulse rate. If the insurer needs to work out the severity of a problem, it's easier to do that within a few months of diagnosis than 20 years down the line.

In your case, so long as your medical records clearly demonstrate what was wrong with you I doubt the insurer will care about your claim being slightly late.
