I want to know, before looking at the number or picking up the phone, who in the house the call is likely to be for.
Is this possible?
Thanks.

Depends on the handset you have and if you have cli activated on your line.
My panasonic cordless does, you can even have the display illuminate different colurs for certain call groups.0 -
I guess this sounds, dumb, but Caller ID is a must, is it? I remember, years ago, BT plugging a way of getting a second no. on the same phone line, but didn't quite fathom how that would be possible and ignored the offer.
Also, my phones are old Panasonics, on two lines. One phone line has Panasonic KX-TCA132ES and the other has Pana KX-TG8222EB.
To be honest, I don't know what the advanced features of the phones are.0 -
Not sure if this is what you want
"BT Call Sign" – gives you an extra number with a different ring tone so you can make sure the right person answers the phone0 -

I would imagine CLI is a must as there is little way of 'knowing' where the callers originating number is, I don't know what the model of my handset is, it is many years old now and it also worked with the BT 2nd incoming line feature.0 -
I have a BT Synergy 4100 which does this but which has been succeeded by BT Synergy 6500, and which seems to be widely available.
The way mine works is that you store each incoming number in the phone's memory, with the name of the caller and the ring tone you want to have when they call. I have tones for members of family, my business contacts, my wife's contacts, and one for internal call from one handset to another, so if I pick up and the call is for my wife, I can transfer it to her downstairs from my office upstairs, and she will know it is a call being transferred.
Of course there has to be a tone for unrecognised incoming numbers as well.
My phone has capacity for 256 stored numbers of which 123 are in use at the moment.0 -
I used BT Call Sign for several years to identify personal from business calls. They give you a second number which gives a different type of ring when called.
It was very useful. BT do charge for this service."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
