Removing weeds between paving stones

  • I have duly just received my Amazon gadget that I was recommended by Mojisola and part of that was that it had received good reviews on the site.

Will have to unwrap my new toy and have a play...

I'm a bit nervous about using salt personally, as I'm not quite sure what my future plans for that bit of my garden are and they might possibly entail ripping up the flagstones and planting some (wanted this time) plants there.

No weeds here since filling in between the slabs with wood fillets.
Needs painting with preservative. Also use a burner on the driveway, though the weeds do come back, however looks OK for about a month.
  • This is the first chance I've had to get my hands on a proper garden (as opposed to what is euphemistically called a "courtyard garden", where I had to put everything in pots), so I am still working out how frequently weeds are going to appear.

Right now, that seems to translate into "I only just weeded that bit last week and I can see a noticeable number of weeds again already and some of them are several inches tall". So, for the weeds that are directly there in the soil, I am developing a philosophy of "Let them grow to just big enough to be identifiable and see whether they are usable in any way (in which case = keep them) or just plain weeds I don't want (in which case = remove them).

Am hoping that weed growth slows down in autumn/winter, and will be awaiting my first full season here of that to see what happens on that front. Presuming I wont have to nip out that often in the winter for that purpose that its something that "has to be done" regardless of whether its howling with wind and "monsooning" with rain?
