British Gas. No Maestro for online payments
I see, since I paid my last monthly bill, British Gas no longer accept Maestro cards for online payments.
No excuses, no apologies, just a note to say if you pay by Maestro use the automated phone service or a different type of card.
I pay all my household bills from one account via maestro, so now I've got to start making an exception for British Gas!

Why not use the automated phone service or dd?0

I don't want to!
I want to use the service that I've always used and one that seems acceptable to pretty much every other online seller/service except British Gas.0 -
Perhaps they charge too much, take too long to pay or perhaps they just don't want to use them any more.0

You should still be able to pay by bank transfer.0

Fwiw, I too just found out the BG have black balled maestro...not funny since that's the only card my mum in law has and it's the one she pays her gas bills with. She opted for paperless billing too...to save BG money (and for the nectar points) now unless Yorkshire bank start issuing MasterCard debit cards instead of maestro...BG will have to start paper billing her again and can wait longer for their money!0

Yorkshire Bank do issue MasterCard Debit Cards..speak to the local branch to see what type of account the MIL has \ would need to have that facility.Fwiw, I too just found out the BG have black balled maestro...not funny since that's the only card my mum in law has and it's the one she pays her gas bills with. It is the banks and MasterCard itself that are deprecating Maestro, not retailers. Complain about the issuers not the customers.0

Maestro is being phased out and replaced with Debit Mastercard. They are pretty much the same thing, both debit cards operated by master card. There doesn't seem much reason to have 2 brands.
Its been going on since 2009
